We have an exciting role for a Teacher of Biology within our Sixth Form team!
We are looking for an inspirational and enthusiastic Teacher of Biology to join our successful and growing Sixth Form team. This is an exciting opportunity to teach motivated A Level students, shape their academic success, and contribute to a thriving learning community that is committed to excellence, inclusion and ambition for every learner. The successful candidate will teach both Year 1 and Year 2 of A Level Biology on the OCR specification and will play a key role in ensuring our students make excellent progress, enjoy an exceptional learning experience, and are supported to achieve their full potential in Biology.
The post will be based at our Sixth Form Centre on the Filton Campus.
Our A Level Biology students are ambitious, engaged and enthusiastic learners, many of whom progress to degrees and careers in medicine, healthcare, biological sciences and related fields.
We welcome applications from both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers. ECTs will benefit from a comprehensive induction programme, structured mentoring and full support through the Early Career Framework. We are keen to appoint the successful candidate at the earliest opportunity and would welcome applications from candidates who are available to start promptly.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities- Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging A Level Biology lessons that inspire students and support excellent progress.
- Assess, monitor and track student achievement, providing timely feedback and targeted intervention where required.
- Deliver and oversee the practical elements of the OCR A Level Biology specification, maintaining accurate records in line with OCR and regulatory requirements.
- Create an inclusive learning environment that promotes high expectations, student confidence and academic success.
- Contribute to the development of enrichment opportunities, including Biology-related activities, trips and super-curricular experiences. This may include mentoring students towards appropriate industry placements, supporting applications to external competitions, and signposting opportunities that enhance their skills, knowledge and future progression.
- Support students through the Sixth Form tutorial programme and contribute to their wider personal development.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, technicians and support staff to ensure an outstanding student experience.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications- Hold a degree in Biology or a closely related subject and possess QTS/QTLS (or be eligible to undertake ECT induction).
- Be an effective and engaging classroom practitioner with strong subject knowledge and a passion for Biology.
- Have experience of teaching A Level Biology, ideally OCR, although applications are welcomed from candidates with experience of other awarding bodies.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of effective teaching, learning and assessment strategies that enable students to achieve their full potential.
- Have high expectations of student achievement and a proven commitment to securing excellent outcomes.
- Be committed to supporting students both academically and pastorally.
